Mortensen Garners Academic All-America Accolades

2013 Capital One Academic All-America Baseball Teams
OMAHA, Neb. -- Sophomore catcher Alex Mortensen was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Baseball Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.
Mortensen's recognition marks the Omaha's first Academic All-American in baseball program history. An outstanding student, he carries a 3.93 grade-point average with a major in business management and is a member of the UNO Chancellor's List and Dean's List. Mortensen also participates on the UNO Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a recipient of the Tal Anderson Business Scholarship.
In his sophomore season and Omaha's first as a member of the Summit League in 2013, Mortensen captured first-team All-Summit accolades and Academic All-Summit honors. He batted .318 with 57 runs scored, 27 RBI and 19 walks, and his 15 doubles for the year ranked second in the conference.
Mortensen joins senior women's basketball player Paige Frauendorfer, also a third-team Academic All-America honoree last winter, as UNO's two Academic All-Americans in 2012-13.
