OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team will play 28 regular-season games and one exhibition game in 2013-14 and will participate in the Wichita State Classic in December, as part of the schedule released on Monday.
Due to the addition of Denver and the departure of Kansas City and Oakland, the Mavs will have a 14-game Summit League schedule in 2013-14 as opposed to the 16-game schedule last season.
The Mavs open the season with an exhibition against former MIAA foe Lincoln on Nov. 2 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The regular season begins with a road trip to the South, starting Nov. 8 at Louisiana-Lafayette and finishing up Nov. 10 at Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss.
The Mavs' home opener will be Thursday, Nov. 14 against Graceland, and Chicago State (Nov. 18) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 23) follow after.
Over the Thanksgiving break, UNO will make a trip to California to play Cal State Bakersfield (Nov. 27) and Long Beach State (Dec. 1). After returning home from the trip, the Mavs will hit the road again the following weekend at Northern Colorado on Dec. 7.
The Mavs host Air Force and Eureka on back-to-back midweek nights on Dec. 11 and 12, respectively. UNO will then travel to Head Coach Chance Lindley's hometown of Wichita, Kan., for the Wichita State Classic after the semester ends for games against UT-Pan American (Dec. 21) and Austin Peay (Dec. 22).
After returning from Christmas break, the Mavs host five straight home games, beginning with Doane at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve and Milwaukee on Jan. 5 to wrap up non-conference play.
The Mavs then begin league play with three home games, starting with Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 11. The league schedule will have the same format as last season with games on Thursdays and Saturdays. North Dakota State (Jan. 16) and South Dakota State (Jan. 18) visit the Sapp Fieldhouse before the Mavs play their first league road game on Jan. 23 at newcomer Denver. UNO then travels to Vermillion to meet South Dakota on Jan. 25.
The following week, UNO hosts Fort Wayne (Jan. 30) and IUPUI (Feb. 1). The Mavs travel to Western Illinois on Feb. 6 and have the ensuing Saturday off. UNO returns to action Feb. 13 at South Dakota State and Feb. 15 at North Dakota State.
The Mavs wrap up the home slate with South Dakota on Feb. 20 and Denver on Feb. 22. The season concludes with a road trip to IUPUI (Feb. 27) and Fort Wayne (March 1).
In year three of their Division I transition, the Mavs remain ineligible for the conference tournament and NCAA Tournament until the 2015-16 season.
