Mavs Release Full 2013-14 Men's Basketball Slate

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball program has finalized its 2013-14 season schedule, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Tuesday. The Mavericks' third year as a Division I school includes 13 home games at Ralston Arena and four televised contests, two of which will be broadcast nationally on Fox College Sports.
The Mavericks will play in 12 states and five time zones across the country, including a trip to Hawaii to start the second half of the season. The schedule also features games against three 2013 NCAA Tournament teams -- UNLV, Minnesota and defending Summit League champion South Dakota State.
"With the schedule we have put together for 2013-14, we're excited about the challenges ahead for our team," Hansen said. "This year we're starting a home-and-home series with Nevada, and we'll have a big test with Denver joining the Summit League. We also have road games at two Big Ten venues, and the Hawaii trip will give us a great start to 2014 before beginning conference play.
"We're looking forward to the upcoming season. Since becoming a Division I program, this is the most depth we've had, and that makes for more competitive practices and better gameday performances. We're no longer a stranger to the Summit League, and 2013-14 has the potential to be a big year for our program."
Omaha makes its season debut on Nov. 8 at Northern Illinois and continues the trip with an away game at Iowa on Nov. 10. The Mavericks make their home debut at Ralston Arena on Nov. 13, welcoming former Summit League foe UMKC, which joined the Western Athletic Conference this season.
UNO visits Las Vegas to face Mountain West opponent UNLV on Nov. 16, then returns to Ralston on Nov. 19 for the first of two match-ups with South Carolina State. On Nov. 23, the Mavericks visit Drake, then meet South Carolina State again on Nov. 25 in an away contest.
A familiar foe in Cal State Bakersfield – which Omaha has seen three times in the last two years -- then visits Ralston Arena on Dec. 10. The Mavericks will play two solid road opponents with games at Nevada (Dec. 14) and at Minnesota (Dec. 20) before breaking for the holidays.
The second semester opens with four straight road games, highlighted by a trip Hawaii on Jan. 3. Omaha jumps into its regular-season Summit League slate on Jan. 11 at Western Illinois, followed by games at North Dakota State (Jan. 16) and South Dakota State (Jan. 18), the latter of which will be televised on Midco.
Omaha squares off with league newcomer Denver on Jan. 23, which will be broadcast live on Fox College Sports and Midco, followed by South Dakota on Jan. 25. The Mavericks close the first month of conference action with a game at Fort Wayne (Jan. 30) and another contest at IUPUI (Feb. 1). UNO then embarks on its longest homestand of the season, with three games over a one-week stretch: Western Illinois (Feb. 8), South Dakota State (Feb. 13) and North Dakota State (Feb. 15). The NDSU contest will be shown live on FCS and Midco.
The Mavericks play on Midco again at South Dakota (Feb. 20) and cap their final road swing of the year at Denver (Feb. 22). Omaha closes the 2013-14 season with two final home games, hosting IUPUI on Feb. 27 and Fort Wayne on March 1.
Hansen enters his ninth season at the helm of the Maverick program, boasting a career record of 132-106. Omaha returns eight letterwinners from the 2012-13 squad, including four starters in seniors Justin Simmons, John Karhoff and Alex Phillips and junior CJ Carter.
