Mavs Announce 2013-14 Roster

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Mavericks women's basketball team will have a new look in 2013-14, as nine newcomers make up the 12-player roster.
Ericka House returns as the Mavs' lone senior after leading all Summit League players in scoring off the bench last year with 9.0 points per game. Juniors Cathleen Cox and Taijhe Kelly are also back. Cox played in seven games and averaged 2.6 points per game before a season-ending knee injury last season, while Kelly started 24 games and led The Summit League in blocked shots with 74.
But the bulk of the Mavericks' roster will wear a Maverick jersey for the first time this November. Four of the nine newcomers signed in the early signing period last November and are all freshmen. The other five newcomers comprise one freshman walk-on, three junior college transfers and one Division I transfer.
Brianna Bogard, a 5-7 junior guard from Georgetown, Texas, transfered to UNO after playing in 10 games in her sophomore season at East Tennessee State in 2012-13. Bogard was averaging 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game before departing from ETSU. Bogard played in all 30 games as a freshman in 2011-12 and averaged 5.2 points and 1.5 assists per game for the Buccaneers.
Among the three junior college transfers, Janairrika Bland brings her 6-4 frame to the Maverick post. Bland, an Edwards, Miss., native, was a Southern Mississippi recruit out of high school but missed her only season there after having open heart surgery prior to the 2010-11 season. Bland also sat out the 2011-12 season to recover before enrolling at MCC-Penn Valley in Kansas City, Mo. Bland tallied 23.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per game to rank third in the NJCAA Division II in scoring and eighth in rebounding. She had 23 double-doubles but also showed her range by shooting 28.4 percent (23-of-81) from 3-point range.

Bough, a 5-10 guard, hails from Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands. Bough played point guard the last two years at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Bough possesses a steady, all-around game, as she averaged 6.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game as a sophomore in 2012-13, while averaging 1.9 steals per game and carrying an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.2.
Felicia Coleman, a native of Winter Park, Fla., will join the Mavericks as a walk-on freshman. A 5-5 guard, Coleman played at Trinity Prep High School, where she set the career assists record and averaged a team-high 17.4 points, 5.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a senior. Coleman averaged 6.8 assists per game as a junior to rank fifth in the state of Florida.

Robson was a two-time defensive MVP for Ankeny, and she averaged 7.8 points and led Iowa's largest class with 167 assists as a senior in 2012-13. Robson helped the traditional powerhouse Hawkettes reach the Class 5-A semifinals last year. Robson was the starting point guard for the 2011 AAU National Champion All Iowa Attack, which had eight players sign Division I scholarships.

Pawlak was the all-area player of the year as a junior after averaging 11.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, helping the Vikings win the conference and region titles. Finally, Victoria Trowbridge, a 6-1 forward, was an athletic presence in the paint for Naperville Central High School. Trowbridge averaged 12.3 points and 11.1 rebounds with 80 blocked shots as a senior. She was a unanimous all-DuPage Valley Conference pick and a DuPage County all-area selection.
The Mavs open their season Nov. 3 with an exhibition at the Sapp Fieldhouse against Lincoln University (Mo.).

Played two seasons at Mission College in Santa Clara, Calif., and became the school's career scoring leader with 1,266 points…averaged a school-record 22.0 points per game as a freshman and 21.3 points per game as a sophomore and earned California Community College Association All-State both years…led Mission College to the league title in 2013 and was named league MVP…shot 43.0 percent from 3-point range (131-of-305) and 82.2 percent on free throws…scored a school-record 41 points on Nov. 29 at Los Medanos, hitting a school-record 11 3-point field goals in the game…chose UNO over Colorado State, Nevada and Loyola Marymount.
Janairrika Bland, 6-4, Jr., C, Edwards, Miss. (Raymond/MCC-Penn Valley)
Played one season of junior college basketball at MCC-Penn Valley in Kansas City, Mo. in 2012-13…averaged 23.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore to rank third in the NJCAA Division II in scoring and eighth in rebounding…scored a career-high 43 points on Nov. 15…had 12 games scoring at least 25 points, including three 30-point games and two 40-point games…had double-digit rebounds in 23 of 25 games and scored in double-figures every game for a total of 23 double-doubles…on Jan. 30, 2013 vs. Wentworth Military Academy, totaled 30 points, 23 rebounds and blocked nine shots... a talented post player with the ability to shoot from outside as well, shot 50.5 percent from the floor and hit 28.4 percent from 3-point range (23-of-81)… started her collegiate career at Southern Miss in 2010-11 but sat out her only season with the Golden Eagles after having open heart surgery before the season started...also sat out the 2011-12 season to recover from the surgery…starred at Raymond High School in Raymond, Miss….averaged 16.6 points and 10.3 rebounds for coach Shay Jackson and earned all-state honors three straight years…All-South State and All-District honoree all four years and an all-metro selection for three years…helped Raymond win the Class 3A state championship as a junior…played in the Mississippi North-South All-Star game…also lettered in softball and was voted her team's best offensive player…chose UNO over Texas Tech, North Carolina State, Kansas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Southeast Missouri State and Prairie View A&M.

Lanese Bough, 5-10, Jr., G, Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands (Central HS/Panola College)
Played point guard for two years at Panola College in Carthage, Texas, a member of the NJCAA Division I…showed a knack for involving her teammates and crashing the boards by averaging 6.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in 2012-13…shot 78.6 percent from the free throw line and hit 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from 3-point range…nabbed 27 steals in 14 games and had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.2…posted 10-plus assists three times and had double-digit rebounds four times, including 14 at Angelina College on Feb. 23…as a freshman in 2011-12, recorded 6.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, along with 1.5 steals per game…shot 41 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line…played volleyball and basketball for the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team…went to Central High School in the Virgin Islands and played for her dad, Donald Bough…named MVP of the Sun Stroke game with eight points, eight steals, six assists and five rebounds.

Sami Pawlak, 6-0, Fr., F, Geneva, Ill. (Geneva)
An athletic and versatile forward capable of stepping out on the wing, was named to the Chicago Sun-Times Top 50 before her senior season at Geneva under coach Sarah Meadows...helped Geneva to an 18-10 record and the league title as a senior…3was named the Kane County Chronicle All-Area Player of the Year after her junior season in 2011-12 in which she averaged 11.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Upstate Eight Conference River Division champion Vikings...was a member of three publications' all-area first teams after helping Geneva to a 24-6 record and the regional championship...played AAU basketball for Illinois Hustle under coaches Derril Kipp and Reggie Dawson...also ran cross country in high school...was also recruited by Army, Boston and Rhode Island.

A versatile guard with the ability to play in the paint, was a third-team Lincoln Journal Star Super-State selection after averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior in 2012-13 at Sandy Creek High School...was also named one of the state's Prep Athletes of the Year...averaged 18.4 points and 10.1 rebounds as a junior, helping the Cougars win the Class C-1 state championship…was a first-team all-state pick and honorary captain…also helped the Cougars win the C-2 state title in 2010…played AAU basketball for the Nebraska Twisterz under coach Randy Edwards…averaged 19.4 points per game in the summer of 2012 and scored 155 points in eight games at the Miss Basketball Showcase, fifth-most in the tournament's history, and led the Twisterz to the tournament title…was also an all-state volleyball player and a state qualifier in track…was recruited to walk on at Nebraska but signed with UNO early in the recruiting process.

An athletic defender in the post, averaged 12.3 points and 11.1 rebounds with 80 blocked shots as a senior at Naperville Central High School…was a unanimous all-DuPage Valley Conference pick and a DuPage County all-area selection…as a junior, helped Naperville Central to a 19-9 record and was the team's top rebounder with 7.7 boards per game…recorded a team-best 51.0-percent field goal percentage and was voted the team's most improved player while earning all-conference honors and all-area honorable mention…was also voted most improved player as a freshman and as a sophomore after helping the Redhawks win the region championship…played AAU basketball for the Illinois Rockets under coach Drew Ondik…also participated in swimming and track…was an honor roll student...was also recruited by Saint Louis, Cornell, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Florida Southern and Penn.
