Mavs Complete Day 1 at Holiday Inn Invitational

Lincoln, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team posted two second place finishes along with six new personal bests in day one at the Holiday Inn Invitational on Friday.
Katarina Zarudnaya took runner up in the mile run with a time of 5:02.59. Ashley Kildow set a new personal best, running a time of 5:09.14, finishing fifth while Catherine Davison came in with a time of 5:32.23, finishing 14th.
Liz Thompson set a new personal best in the weight throw with a throw of 50 feet four inches, surpassing her old mark by nearly three feet and finishing in 11th place.
Sami Spenner finished second in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet four inches while also qualifying for Saturday's 60 meter hurdles finals. Spenner had the fourth-best qualifying time at 8.67, just missing out on tying her personal best of 8.66.
Two freshmen had PRs in the 800 meter run. Emily Moore and Claire Cunningham both ran the race for the first time, coming in at 2:52.51 and 2:54.79, respectively.
Others recording personal bests were Payton Horacek in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.19, and Lindsey Bruns in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:55.72, finishing sixth.
The second day of competition begins with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at 12 p.m.
