Mavericks Compete on Second Day at NU

LINCOLN, Neb. - UNO's Sami Spenner turned in a fourth place finish on the second day of competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by Nebraska on Saturday.
Spenner posted a time of 8.76 in the 60 meters hurdles finals to finish in fourth place behind two Southern Illinois Edwardsville hurdlers and a Kansas athlete. Her time was just one tenth of a second shy of tying her personal best from last year.
The Mavericks also shone in the distance medley relay, an event 4,000 meters with legs of 1,200, 400, 800, and 1,600. Ashley Kildow, Sami Spenner, Alyssa Thavanet and Katarina Zarudnaya finished fourth with a time of 12:05.65.
Two Maverick athletes also set personal records as Amanda Alexander ran a time 28.96 in the 200 meter dash while Alyssa Thavanet set a new PR in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.38.
In field events, Amanda Conlin was just 2.5 inches short of setting a new personal record in the shot put while Denneil Shaw finished 11th in the triple jump with a jump of 36 feet 11.75 inches.
The Mavericks are back in Lincoln next week at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, Jan. 24.
