Mavs Take on South Dakota

The Omaha women's basketball team concludes its first Summit League road trip at South Dakota on Saturday at the DakotaDome at 2 p.m. Live stats and a live webcast link will be available at OMavs.com.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 9-9 overall and 1-3 in the Summit League after a 73-66 loss at Denver on Thursday. The Mavs continue to lead all league teams in blocks per game (4.8), opponents' field goal percentage (36.2) and opponents' 3-point percentage (27.4). Senior guard Ericka House ranks third in the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game. Mikaela Shaw adds 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Taijhe Kelly is averaging 8.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots per game, which is eighth in the nation and leads the Summit. Madi Robson leads the team with 4.9 assists per game to rank third in the conference.
South Dakota is 9-10 overall and 0-4 in Summit League play, but the Coyotes are 6-1 at home this season. They suffered their first home loss on Thursday to Western Illinois, 81-71. Nicole Seekamp leads the team in scoring with 14.1 points per game but has been battling a lingering ankle injury and has missed two games in a row and four out of the last six. Raeshel Contreras adds 12.7 ppg. Polly Harrington averages 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. The Coyotes have 11 players who average at least 12.9 minutes per game. Through four league games, the Coyotes are allowing a league-high 87.0 points per game.

South Dakota leads the all-time series, 35-33. The Coyotes swept the season series last year with a 62-57 win in Vermillion on Dec. 30 and a 50-39 win in Omaha on Feb. 28.

The Mavericks are now 9-9 overall and 1-3 in the Summit League. Denver improved to 4-15 and 2-2 in Summit League play. The Mavs trailed by as many as eight points late in the first half but fought back to take a 52-50 lead on a 3-pointer by House with 11:59 to play. But the Mavs converted just one field goal and scored four points over the next 8:51, while Denver went on a 15-4 run to take a 65-56 lead with 4:26 left. The Mavs finally were able to put together productive possessions late in the game, but it was too little too late. Omaha got within four, 70-66, with 31 seconds left, but Denver made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. Ericka House matched her career high with 26 points on 9-of-21 from the field and 5-of-10 from 3-point range. Taijhe Kelly had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Mikaela Shaw had 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Denver got 17 points and 11 rebounds from Paige Bradley and 13 points from Jordan Johnston.

The senior from Hot Springs, Ark., has seven 20-point games this year and has led UNO in scoring 12 times.
• Taijhe Kelly leads the league with 3.2 blocked shots per game and ranks eighth nationally. Kelly has also recorded double-digit rebounds in six of her last nine games. She ranks third in the league with 7.3 rebounds per game on the season and second with 3.3 offensive boards per game. The junior center has moved up to seventh in school history with 169 career offensive rebounds and is just three away from the top five.
• Freshman Mikaela Shaw has scored in double figures in all four Summit League games and is averaging 13.5 ppg in league play after averaging 8.8 ppg in non-conference play.
• UNO is 8-2 when outscoring its opponent in the paint and 7-1 when winning the rebounding department.
