Mavs Host Red-Hot IUPUI

The Omaha women's basketball team looks to rebound from Thursday night's defeat to Fort Wayne when IUPUI visits the Sapp Fieldhouse for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday. Live webcast, audio and stats links will all be available at OMavs.com. IUPUI is the final Summit League opponent that the Mavs have yet to face this year.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 9-11 overall and 1-5 in the Summit League after Fort Wayne hit 15 3-pointers en route to an 81-71 win over the Mavs on Thursday. The Mavs are hoping to snap a four-game losing skid and two-game skid at home. Senior guard Ericka House ranks third in the league in scoring at 17.9 points per game. Mikaela Shaw adds 9.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Taijhe Kelly is averaging 8.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots per game, which is 11th in the nation and leads the Summit. In conference play only, the Mavs are second in steals per game (9.3) and third in blocked shots per game (3.3). The Mavs' 73.5 points per game allowed ranks third.
IUPUI (15-6, 5-1 Summit) won handily at Western Illinois on Thursday, 77-60, for its fifth straight win and seventh in its last eight games. The Jaguars are led by DeAirra Goss, who is averaging 13.7 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Nevena Markovic contributes 10.1 points and 5.8 boards per game. IUPUI has the best overall winning percentage (.714) in the league and allows just 60.3 points per game in conference play to rank first. The Jaguars average a league-best 13.8 offensive rebounds per game for all games played.

The Mastodons improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in Summit League play, while the Mavs dropped to 9-11 and 1-5 in league action. Ericka House had a team-high 22 points. Sami Pawlak had 11 points and seven rebounds in her first career start. Felicia Anderson also had 11 points and hit 3-of-4 from 3-point range. The Mavs held the Summit League's leading scorer, Amanda Hyde, to just two points in the first half, but she finished with 14. Haley Seibert, however, tallied 32 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Seibert shot 7-of-12 from 3-point range, matching her career high, and hit 7-of-8 free throws. She led four Mastodons in double figures.

• Ericka House's 17.9 ppg ranks third in the Summit League, and her 3.0 three-pointers made per game lead the league. House is shooting 89.8 percent (44-of-49) from the free throw line to rank second in the conference, and she has made 17 straight free throws dating back to Jan. 5. The senior from Hot Springs, Ark., has eight 20-point games this year and has led UNO in scoring 13 times.
• Taijhe Kelly leads the league with 3.2 blocked shots per game and ranks 11th nationally. She ranks third in the league with 7.0 rebounds per game on the season and second with 3.2 offensive boards per game. The junior center has moved up to fifth in school history with 173 career offensive rebounds and is 64 away from tying the school record.
• Freshman forward Sami Pawlak made her first career start against Fort Wayne on Thursday, and she was productive for the Mavs with 11 points, seven rebounds and a team-best three assists. Pawlak has averaged 22.0 minutes in her last two games with 10.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg. In her previous seven games, she had played 10.3 minutes per game with 3.0 ppg and 2.1 rpg.

The Mavericks are by far the least experienced team in The Summit League this season. Seven of the 10 Mavericks who have played this season are first-year Division I players - five freshmen and two junior transfers. As of Jan. 27, the Mavericks led all Summit League teams with 69.6 percent of their minutes played by first-year Division I players. The next closest was South Dakota at 26.7 percent. The seven Mavericks new to Division I have combined for 60.0 percent of the Mavericks' points, 63.6 percent of rebounds and 87.1 percent of assists entering Thursday's game vs. Fort Wayne.
Kelly Moving Up All-Time Blocks Chart
Junior center Taijhe Kelly is climbing her way up the career blocked shots chart at UNO. Kelly has 181 career blocks to rank second in school history. The school-record holder is Mary Henke-Anderson with 291 from 1979-83. Kelly swatted 74 shots in 2012-13, the third-highest single-season total in Maverick history. Only Henke-Anderson has had more blocked shots in a season (86 in 1980-81 and 75 in 1979-80). Kelly was first in The Summit League last season with her 2.6 blocks per game. Her 51 blocked shots in conference play were 26 more than the next closest competitor. Kelly is tied for the school record with seven blocked shots in one game, which she did on Feb. 7, 2013 against Western Illinois.
