The Omaha volleyball team returns to action with two matches this weekend, hosting Oral Roberts on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. before traveling to South Dakota State on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com, and Jon Green will provide commentary for the webcast during Friday night's home match.
Scouting the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts enters the weekend with a record of 9-10 (3-3 Summit League) after earning a 3-1 win over North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla. The Golden Eagles sit just ahead of Omaha in the Summit League standings, where they are fifth.
ORU is led by Laura Milos, who is third in the Summit League with 4.33 kills per set and fourth with 0.36 service aces per set. Head coach Sheera Sirola is in her 12th season and holds a career record of 218-143.
This weekend marks the fifth meeting all-time between Omaha and Oral Roberts, and the Golden Eagles lead the series, 4-0. The two squads last met on Nov. 6, 1982 at Sapp Fieldhouse, with ORU winning 2-0.
Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits
South Dakota State enters the weekend with a record of 6-16 (0-6 Summit League) after falling 3-0 at Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon in Macomb, Ill. The Jackrabbits seek their first conference win of the season this weekend.
SDSU is led by Wagner Larson's 2.08 kills per set, and Alanna Pengilly ranks fourth in the Summit League with 330 total digs. Head coach Phil McDaniel is in his fifth year with South Dakota State, and he holds a record of 40-71 over four seasons there, as well as a 97-106 mark over his seven-year coaching career.
This weekend marks the 54th meeting all-time between Omaha and South Dakota State, and the Mavericks lead the series, 34-19. SDSU won the last meeting, 3-1, on Nov. 8, 2013 in Brookings, S.D.

The Mavericks have outblocked their opponents a combined 192-115.5 and have tallied double-digit team blocks in 12 matches. As such, the Mavericks, who may not officially be listed in the NCAA Division I stats release, are unofficially ranked 16th in the country with 192 total blocks, and they are 35th nationally with 2.56 blocks per set. Individually, junior Megan Schmale is 32nd among Division I blockers with 87 total blocks.

Omaha claims three of the top five spots on the Summit League's individual blocking leaders list. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Amanda Conlin is third with 1.24 blocks per set, junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is fourth (1.16) and junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (1.05).
As a team, Omaha is second with 2.56 blocks per set and 192 total blocks, and its 340 block assists lead the league.
Last Time Out: Fort Wayne Gets Past Mavericks, 3-2
Omaha pushed it to five sets against Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon, but the effort fell just short in a 3-2 loss at Sapp Fieldhouse. Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak got her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 kills and 13 digs. Junior middle blocker Megan Schmale matched Wollak with 10 kills and added seven digs and four blocks.
Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey just missed a double-double, totaling nine kills with 17 digs and three blocks. Junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer also had a standout effort, notching eight kills, five digs and a team-leading six blocks.
Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy also had 26 assists with a pair of kills and seven digs, and sophomore setter Nicki Carson added a career-high 15 assists of her own. Junior middle blocker Diane Banderas finished with five kills and five blocks.
As a team, Omaha hit .082 to Fort Wayne's .170. The two teams each had 10 blocks in the match.
