STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Omaha women's tennis team finished out its fall slate with its first appearance at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships last weekend at Oklahoma State's Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Mavericks' had a standout performance from junior Molly Matricardi, who won a qualifying-round singles match during her weekend run. She defeated UMKC's Maddie Schulte, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8, before falling to Summer Collins of Kansas, 6-1, 6-2.
On the doubles side, sophomore Allison Johnson and freshman Michelle Lo picked up a main-round win, defeating Mela Jaglarz and Lea Kozulic of Drake, 8-4. They were ousted in their next match, 8-2, against Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez from host OSU.
"This entire tournament was a great experience for our program," head coach Mike Saniuk said. "We had a couple of victories in our first ITA trip, and there were a lot of positives we took from the weekend. I feel very confident that we can make strides in the right direction heading into our spring season."
