Peterson Named NCHC Rookie of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman forward Avery Peterson was named the Bauer NCHC Rookie of the Week following the Mavericks' sweep of Ohio State last weekend.
Peterson had a breakout weekend in Columbus. He scored three goals and added two assists for five points in the series, while posting a +3 rating on the weekend.
On Friday, the Minnesota Wild prospect scored a power play goal and chipped in an assist on the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory. The next night, Peterson notched a career-high three points, tallying two goals for his first career multi-goal game, while also handing out an assist. He scored UNO's first two goals Saturday, tying the game at 1-1 and adding a second tally late in the first period to help spark a 4-3 comeback win, while his assist helped tie the game at 3-3. He also had a +3 rating in Friday's game and has four goals in his last three games.
Peterson is the second Maverick to win a weekly award in as many weeks after Ryan Massa was named Goaltender of the Week following UNO's series at Cornell on Oct. 31-Nov. 1. It is the third weekly award for a UNO player overall.
The No. 13/14 Mavericks have a week off before hosting No. 13/15 Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22. Tickets for both games are on sale at the CenturyLink Center box office, the Sapp Fieldhouse ticket office and at OmahasTeam.com.
