Omaha Hosts Western Illinois on Senior Night

The Omaha volleyball team closes out the regular season this weekend, welcoming Western Illinois on Friday, Nov. 14 with first serve set for 7 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse. Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com, and Jon Green will have the call on the webcast.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the Mavericks will hold special Senior Day festivities before the match to honor the careers of senior middle blocker Jessy Schroedter and senior defensive specialist Rachelle Kruml.
Scouting the Western Illinois Leathernecks
Western Illinois enters the week with a record of 5-22 (3-11 Summit League) after falling 3-0 at IUPUI on Tuesday. The Leathernecks are led by Ann Miller's 3.69 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the Summit League. Setter Samantha Fournier is also fourth in the conference with 7.81 assists per set. Head coach April Hall is in her third year with the Leathernecks, and she holds a career record of 28-47.
WIU leads the all-time series against Omaha, 3-2. The two schools last played on Sept. 26, when the Jaguars took a 3-2 decision at Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks have outblocked their opponents a combined 252-176.5 and have tallied double-digit team blocks in 12 matches. As such, the Mavericks, who may not officially be listed in the NCAA Division I stats release, are unofficially ranked 33rd in the country with 252 total blocks, and they are 69th nationally with 2.36 blocks per set. Individually, junior Megan Schmale is 57th among Division I blockers with 116 total blocks.
The Block Party: Summit League Style
Omaha claims four of the top 10 spots on the Summit League's individual blocking leaders list. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Amanda Conlin is third with 1.16 blocks per set, junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is fourth (1.08), junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (0.97) and junior middle blocker Diane Banderas is ninth (0.93). Schmale also ranks first in the conference with 109 block assists and is second with 116 total blocks.
As a team, Omaha is second in the league with 444 block assists, 252 total blocks and 2.36 blocks per set.
Last Time Out: Fort Wayne Edges Mavericks in 3-2 Marathon
It proved to be the second Maverick-Mastodon marathon of the year on Saturday night, as Omaha dropped a 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 11-15) decision to Fort Wayne at Gates Sports Center. Three Omaha players recorded double-doubles for the night: junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak (15 kills, 11 digs), freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey (13 kills, 15 digs) and freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy (43 assists, 13 digs).
Junior middle blockers Amy Taylor and Megan Schmale led the way at the net, finishing with four blocks apiece. Schmale added 10 kills on .348 attacking, and Taylor had seven more while hitting .385.
As a team, UNO hit .210 to IPFW's .208, but the Mastodons outblocked Omaha, 13-8.
