Scarpello Announces 2015 Recruiting Class

OMAHA, Neb. – Head softball coach Jeanne Scarpello has announced this year's signing class of four future Mavericks to National Letters of Intent. Joining the team for the 2015-16 academic year are Vicky Kinney (Millard South High School/Bennington, Neb.), Alexis Parker (Lee's Summit High School/Lee's Summit, Mo.), Kourtney Pock (Pinnacle High School/Scottsdale, Ariz.), and Laura Roecker (Elkhorn High School/Elkhorn, Neb.).
“We are excited with our 2015 commitments,” said head coach Jeanne Scarpello. “Each of them brings enthusiasm and energy to the field every day. In this class, we have added a quality pitcher, speed, power, and athleticism to the program. These players will have the opportunity to make a huge impact in the UNO Softball team throughout their four years. We can't wait to work with these young ladies in the near future.”
The Mavericks posted a 33-16 overall record last season and a 12-6 Summit League mark in 2014.
2015 Omaha Softball Signing Class
Vicky Kinney, IF, Bennington, Neb. (Millard South HS)
A Millard South High School product, Vicky Kinney batted .530 and hit 14 homeruns with 52 RBI's this season for Millard South High School. This season she had a gaudy 1.144 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage. Kinney also had an outstanding senior year in the field with a .956 fielding percentage. During her outstanding career, she was a three-time all-conference and all-state player for the Patriots. She has been a part of three Millard South Class A State Championship teams. Vicky plays club softball during the summer for Nebraska Gold.
“Vicky will be a great addition to our team both offensively and defensively,” commented Coach Scarpello. “Vicky has a great glove and will add power and consistency to our line up. Her love for the game shows in the way she plays.”
Alexis Parker, OF, Lee's Summit, Mo. (Lee's Summit HS)
Alexis Parker batted .423 this season as Lee's Summit High School won their second straight Missouri Class 4 softball title. Parker earned first-team all-conference and all-state honors this year for the Tigers. She also earned a spot on the Academic All-State team. Alexis plays club softball in the summer for the Originals-Koop.
“Alexis will add speed to our line up from the left side,” commented Scarpello. “Her ability allows her to reach base in a variety of ways. She reads the ball well off the bat in the outfield and will have the ability to take the extra bases on offense.”
Kourntey Pock, C/OF, Scottsdale, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS)
Kourtney Pock had an outstanding junior campaign for Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Ariz. Pock led the Pioneers in almost every offensive statistical category in 2014. She set a school record with 23 doubles, while batting .541 with 59 hits, 5 homeruns, and 37 runs scored. Pock also had a .922 fielding percentage with 22 assists. Kourtney plays club softball for the Arizona Firecrackers.
“Kourtney is an athletic versatile player who will be able to play multiple positions,” commented Scarpello. “She has had the opportunity to play very tough competition throughout the summer which will help her make an impact here quickly. Kourtney will be a consistent gap hitter with the potential to keep adding more power.”
Laura Roecker, P, Elkhorn, Neb. (Elkhorn HS)
Pitcher Laura Roecker led Elkhorn High School to a Nebraska Class B state title in 2014. As a senior, Roecker was 21-3, including 10 shutouts. She had a 273 strikeouts with a 0.90 ERA in 24 games. Roecker was also solid at the plate this season for the Antlers batting .434 with three homeruns and 29 RBIs. She was selected to the All-Nebraska First Team, along with being named the honorary captain for the Nebraska Class B All-State team. Laura played club softball for Nebraska Gold last year and will play for Quakes Gold this summer.
“Laura is a pitcher with good velocity and the ability to hit spots,” said Scarpello. “She comes in with a variety of pitches and has the potential to only get better. We love her work ethic and composure in the circle."
