
Omaha Cruises By Graceland, 89-54

OMAHA, Neb. ā Mikaela Shaw scored six points during an 18-4 run by the Omaha women's basketball team at the end of the first half in an eventual 89-54 victory over Graceland (Iowa) on Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse in Omaha.
Omaha improves to 2-1 on the season, while Graceland drops to 2-4.
Omaha had three players in double figures.Ā Freshman guard Remy Davenport ā making her first career start - had a game high 31 points and hit 7-of-11 from long distance.Ā Davenport just missed setting an Omaha record for three-pointers in a game with seven.Ā The current school record is eight set by Amanda Woodring against College of Saint Mary on Dec. 7, 2011.
Mikaela Shaw had her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.Ā Sami Pawlak just missed on a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds.Ā Lanese Bough had seven points, five rebounds, six steals, and 10 assists in 29 minutes of action.Ā Vanessa Barajas has six points, two rebounds, and a blocked shot in 11 minutes.Ā Madi Robson chipped in seven points, while Felicia Coleman added six points.
Omaha struggled to find consistency until late in the first half.Ā Mikaela Shaw sparked the Mavs following the final media timeout of the first half.Ā The sophomore put back a missed shot to give Omaha a 28-23 lead with 4:05 left in the half.Ā The Omaha defense forced Graceland to turn the ball over on three straight possessions as the Mavs built an 11 point lead.Ā Mikaela Shaw stretched the lead to 19 points with 42 seconds left in the half with jumper on a fast break.Ā Lanese Bough sank a pair of free throws before the end of the half to make the score going into the locker room 44-27.
The Mavericks came out firing in the second half as Remy Davenport drained three straight 3-point shots to increase the lead to 53-29.Ā Davenport would score 19 of Omaha's 24 points to start the second half.Ā Felicia Coleman sank a three pointer to give Omaha their largest lead of the evening at 86-50 with 2:01 remaining in the game.Ā
Graceland was led by Sydney Vaugh's 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting.Ā Yvette Bennett added nine points and five rebounds.
The Mavs outrebounded Graceland 44-32 and grabbed 10 steals.Ā UNO shot 54 percent overall (34-of-63) from the field and 52.4 percent from long distance (11-of-21).Ā Graceland finished 17-of-61 (27.9 percent).
Omaha returns to action with a pair of games over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.Ā The Mavs host North Dakota on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. Ā Omaha welcomes Northern Colorado to Sapp Fieldhouse on Friday, Nov. 28 for a 7 p.m. start.
