Vesel Named NCHC Rookie of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha freshman center Tyler Vesel was named the Bauer NCHC Rookie of the Week on Monday, his first weekly award.
Vesel tallied three points in a split with No. 8/8 Minnesota Duluth. On Friday he handed out the primary assist on a power play goal in a 3-2 loss. The next night, he scored Omaha's first goal of the game to tie the contest and had the primary assist on UNO's next goal later in the first period, which turned out to be the game-winner in a 4-1 victory. Vesel was named the game's third star Saturday when he had a +2 rating. The Oilers prospect finished with a +2 rating on the weekend, blocked five shots and put three shots on goal.
Vesel is the second UNO freshman to win the award in the last three weeks following his fellow rookie Avery Peterson who picked up the same hardware following the Mavericks' sweep at Ohio State on Nov. 7-8.
In all, the Mavericks have earned four weekly awards from the NCHC. Ryan Massa has been named the conference's goaltender of the week following a sweep at Western Michigan on Oct. 17-18 and a tie and win at Cornell on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
The Mavericks will play at No. 2 North Dakota on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28-29. Both games can be seen at NCHC.tv and heard on 1180 Zone 2. Saturday's game will be carried on TV by Fox College Sports.
