No. 12 Mavericks Return Home To Host Huskies

The No. 12 Omaha Mavericks begin an eight-game home stand when they host St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday's game starts one hour later than usual at 8:07 p.m. from the CenturyLink Center.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 8-4-2 overall this season and 4-3-1-1 in the NCHC this season, putting them in fourth place. They are coming off a split at No. 6/7 Miami last weekend. UNO trails the all-time series with St. Cloud State, 6-8-2, but is 4-1-1 all-time against the Huskies in Omaha. The Mavericks are 2-2-0 at home this season.
The Huskies are 6-7-1 overall and 2-3-1-0 in the NCHC this season, good for sixth place. SCSU is coming off a bye weekend. Its most recent series was a split at Bemidji State on Nov. 28-29. St. Cloud State is 3-3-1 on the road this season including a 1-0-1 record in NCHC road games.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks lost to Miami, 8-2 in the opener of their series last Friday before rebounding for a 5-2 win the next night. On Friday, David Pope staked the Mavericks to a 1-0 lead just 4:14 into the game, but the RedHawks reeled off the next seven goals including five in the second period to put the game out of reach. Dominic Zombo scored a powerplay goal in the third to break up the MU scoring string, but the RedHawks scored an empty netter for the final score. Ryan Massa took the loss with four goals against in just under 30 minutes of work. Kirk Thompson stopped 10 shots and allowed three goals in relief.
On Saturday, UNO got two goals from Austin Ortega around one from Pope to lead 3-0 by the 3:48 mark of the second period. Miami chipped away with goals in the second and third, but Avery Peterson scored at 15:52, and Jake Randolph hit an empty net with 20.5 seconds to go to seal it. Massa stopped 40 shots.
The Coaches
Dean Blais is in his sixth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, having led UNO to two 20-win campaigns in that time. The 1973 graduate of Minnesota has posted a record of 361-205-53 (.626) in his career as a head coach and has guided the Mavericks to a mark of 99-90-20 (.522). He coached in his 200th game at UNO on Oct. 31 at Cornell.
Blais is a two-time Spencer Penrose Memorial Award winner as the Division I coach of the year and a four-time winner of the WCHA's Coach of the Year Award. He spent 10 years as head coach at North Dakota where he led UND to national championships in 1997 and 2000. He is assisted by coaches Troy Jutting and Alex Todd who both have extensive head coaching experience, Jutting at Minnesota State and Todd at Castleton (Vt.) State.
Bob Motzko is in his 10th season at St. Cloud State. The 1987 graduate of SCSU is 190-143-41 all-time at his alma mater. He is assisted by Mike Gibbons and Garrett Raboin.

Friday's game will be carried live on NET1, Nebraska's PBS. Dave Ahlers will have the play-by-play, David Brisson will have the analysis and Larry Punteney will report from ice level. Both games also can be heard live on 1180 The Zone 2. Frank Adkisson will call the game on Friday while Ahlers will have the play-by-play on Saturday.
