
Brady, Randolph Nab Player of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time this season, two members of the Omaha hockey team have earned NCHC Player of the Week awards in the same week. Sophomore defenseman Ian Brady was named the Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week while Jake Randolph earned Bauer NCHC Rookie of the Week honors.
Both players tied for the team scoring lead with four points in the Mavericks' sweep of visiting St. Cloud State last weekend.
This is the second time Brady has earned NCHC Player of the Week honors and the first time this year. On Friday, he figured in on all three Omaha goals in a 3-2, come-from-behind win. He scored the game's first goal on a power play and then added assists on the other two. The three-point night was the best of his college career. He finished +1 for the game.
The next night, Brady added another assist as the Mavericks again came from behind to win, 5-3. He had one block and finished +2. Brady now is tied for fourth in team scoring and first among UNO defensemen with 10 points (3-7-10). He is currently tied for eighth in the NCHC in d'man points.
This is the first weekly honor for Randolph who becomes the third Omaha freshman to be honored this season. On Friday, he assisted on the game-tying goal in the Mavericks' 3-2 come-from-behind win. He finished the night with a +1 rating. The next night, he had three more assists as the Mavericks came from behind again to beat the Huskies, 5-3. He also had a +3 rating to finish the weekend at +4.
Randolph is currently tied for second in team scoring with 16 points (3-13-16). He leads the team in assists and has its best plus/minus ration (+11). He is second in freshman scoring in the NCHC and is tied for third in the NCAA. He leads all NCHC rookies in assists and is tied for the NCAA lead.
The Mavericks will finish their pre-Christmas schedule by hosting Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21. Saturday's game begins at 7:07 p.m., and Sunday's game starts at 5:07 p.m.
This Week's Polls
The Mavericks remain 12th in both college hockey polls following their sweep of St. Cloud State. The Mavs did earn one first-place vote in the poll from USA Today/USA Hockey, their first of the season.
The Mavericks have now been ranked for six straight weeks in the USA Today/USA Hockey top-15 poll and for seven straight weeks in the top-20 poll from USCHO.com.
Again this week, five members of the NCHC appear in both polls: North Dakota (2), Miami (6), Minnesota Duluth (7/10), Denver (11) and the Mavericks.
