Guentzel Earns Second Rookie of the Week Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha freshman forward Jake Guentzel was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Bauer Rookie of the Week today. It's the second time he's received the honor.
Guentzel continued to pile up assists last week, earning three in a split at North Dakota on Feb. 8-9. He assisted on the Mavericks' first goal of the game in a 4-2 loss on Friday. On Saturday, he picked up two more helpers, getting an assist on the first goal of a comeback from a two-goal deficit, and then another helper on the game winner, in a 6-3 victory.
The native of Woodbury, Minn. leads the Mavericks with 19 assists and is tied for fourth in team scoring with 22 points. His 19 assist total ties him with Scott Parse, UNO's all-time leading scorer, for second among freshmen in UNO history. He is second in NCHC rookie scoring, leading all first-year players in assists. His assist total is tied for second among all conference players.
Guentzel was first named the rookie of the week in November and later that month was named the NCHC's Rookie of the Month.
Guentzel and the Mavericks return to action this weekend when they host Denver on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday's game starts at 7:07 p.m.
