Mavs Host Huskers Wednesday at 5 P.M.

The Omaha softball team meets 18th-ranked Nebraska on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Westside Field at Westbrook, the first of the annual home-and-home series between the squads. Last year's games were both played in Lincoln, however, as rain in Omaha made UNO's field unplayable. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. UNO students get in free with their MavCard.
The Mavericks
• Amber Lutmer is tied for the nation lead with 13 home runs, and she leads the Mavericks with a .393 batting average and 37 RBI. Lutmer is the school-record holder for career homers (47) and is 23 RBI away from tying the career school mark of 167.
• The top three home run hitters in the Summit League are all Mavericks. In addition to Lutmer's league-best 13 homers, Campbell Ditto has eight and Allie Mathewson has seven. The Mavs lead the league with 36 home runs this season, and their 1.24 home runs per game rank eighth nationally.
• Mathewson hits .365 to go with her seven homers, 28 runs and 20 RBI. She has eight doubles and two triples for a team-high 17 extra-base hits. Ditto hits .333 with eight homers, 27 runs and 22 RBI.
• Dana Elsasser is 16-4 this season with a league-best 1.51 ERA. Her 16 victories rank tied for sixth nationally and lead the Summit League. Elsasser has six shutouts and has completed all 18 of her starts. She is limiting opponents to a .174 batting average. Elsasser's career 1.25 ERA ranks seventh-best in school history, and her .193 opponent batting average is second-best. Her 60 career wins rank eighth in school history and her 31 shutouts rank fourth.
• Sydney Hames is enjoying a strong sophomore season. Hames is hitting .354 with 22 RBI and is coming off her first career home run and a career-best five RBI last Friday against South Dakota. She has significantly raised her average from .256 as a freshman last year.
Scouting Nebraska
The Huskers are led by the Edwards twins. Taylor Edwards has a team-best .444 batting average, nine home runs, 24 runs scored and 19 RBI. Tatum Edwards is 10-6 in the circle with a 1.56 ERA. She has 14 complete games in 16 starts with three shutouts. Emily Lockman is 10-4 with a 2.35 ERA and three shutouts as well. Among NU's other top hitters, Austen Urness hits .313 with a homer, four doubles and a triple. Hailey Decker chips in a .310 average with three home runs and 17 RBI, along with a team-high 10 doubles. The Husker pitching staff is holding opponents to a .213 batting average. NU is coming off a 1-2 weekend at home against nationally ranked Minnesota.
Series History
The all-time series is tied 15-15 since softball became a sanctioned sport at Nebraska in 1976. The Huskers swept the Mavs last year, 3-2 and 4-0, both at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln. NU is 4-0 against UNO since the Mavs' transition to Division I.

OMAHA, Neb. - Dana Elsasser came within one out of a no-hitter, leading the UNO softball team to its first Summit League series win of the season with a 3-1 victory over South Dakota in the series finale Saturday at Westside Field at Westbrook. The Mavs (19-10, 2-1 Summit League) got off to a quick start with a solo home run by Campbell Ditto in the bottom of the first inning. Meanwhile, Elsasser (16-4) was in complete control in the circle, retiring the first nine South Dakota (18-12, 1-2 Summit League) hitters by groundout. She surrendered just one walk on the day. Sydney Hames continued her strong series with a bases-loaded double to right center in the bottom of the third to plate Tara Trede and Allie Mathewson for a 3-0 UNO lead. The Coyotes got a run back in the top of the fourth via a walk and an infield error that allowed the runner to score from second, but Elsasser still held USD hitless until Matley Jones' single to right field with two outs gone in the top of the seventh. Hames was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Trede and Ditto had the over Maverick hits, including Ditto's eighth homer of the season.
