Archibald Named NCHC Player of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Omaha junior right wing Josh Archibald was named the Player of the Month for February by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference today.
Archibald led the NCHC and the NCAA in scoring in February with 10 goals and six assists for 16 points. His 10 goals also were an NCAA best. Three goals came on the power play and two were game winners. He began the month with three assists in an 8-6 win over St. Cloud State on Feb. 1. The following weekend, he scored a natural hat trick, his second hat trick of the season, and added an assist in a 6-3 win at North Dakota on Feb. 8.
The native of Brainerd, Minn. returned home to net a pair of goals in a 4-2 win over Denver on Feb. 14. At Western Michigan on Feb. 21, he had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win and then had two more goals in a 5-3 loss the following night. For his efforts at WMU, he was named the NCHC Offensive Players of the Week. He finished the month with two goals and an assist in a 6-0 win over Colorado College on Feb. 28. His second goal on Feb. 28 set a new school record for goals in a season (28).
He had three multiple-goal games during February and has five in the last 12 games dating back to January.
Archibald averaged two points and 1.25 goals per game in February, leading the NCAA in both categories. He currently leads the NCHC in goals (28) and points (41), both career highs. He also ranks first in the conference and in an eight-way tie for seventh in the NCAA with five game-winning goals. He has eight powerplay goals this season to rank second in the NCHC.
The Mavericks finish the regular season on Friday and Saturday, March 7-8 when they visit Minnesota Duluth for games at 7:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena. The Mavs' magic number to clinch home ice advantage for the first round of the NCHC Playoffs is one.
