Archibald Named First Team All-American

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha hockey junior Josh Archibald was named a member of the AHCA All-American West First Team today. The announcement, from the American Hockey Coaches Association, was made at the NCAA Frozen Four.
Archibald's selection marks the second straight year that a Maverick has been named an All-American after Ryan Walters was named a member of the west second team last year. Archibald is also the fifth Maverick to earn All-American honors. Defenseman Greg Zanon was a second team selection in both 2001 and 2002, forward Jeff Hoggan also picked up a second team honor in 2002, and Scott Parse was a member of the first team in 2006 and the second team in 2007.
Archibald was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Player of the Year and Forward of the Year. He also was the leading vote getter for the NCHC All-Conference First Team and was a Top 10 Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in Division I college hockey.
Archibald led the Mavericks in scoring in 2013-14 with 29 goals and 14 assists for 43 points. He set a new school record and career best for goals in a season and currently ranks third nationally in goals with only the national championship game to be played tomorrow. He was the NCHC's scoring champion with 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in 24 conference games.
Archibald set a school record with two hat tricks this season and is the only player in school history with three career hat tricks.
The native of Brainerd, Minn. was a three-time Bauer NCHC Offensive Player of the Week and was named the Hockey Commissioner's Association Player of the Month for February after leading the country with 10 goals and 16 points.
Archibald joined the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League at the end of the 2013-14 season, foregoing his final season of eligibility with the Mavericks. He was drafted by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's NHL affiliate, the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the sixth round of the 2011 Entry Draft.
