Guentzel Named NCHC Rookie of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha hockey freshman forward Jake Guentzel was been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Month for March and April. It is the second time he has earned the award.
Guentzel led the Mavericks and all NCHC freshmen in scoring during March with two goals and five assists for seven points in six games. He registered a point in all but one game during the month. Guentzel started the month with a goal in a 2-1 overtime win over Colorado College on March 1. The following weekend, he figured in on both UNO goals in an 8-2 loss at Minnesota Duluth on March 7, and he came back with a goal and an assist on the game-winning goal the following night in a 4-1 win at UMD.
In the playoffs, he had an assist in each of the first two games of a best-of-three series against Denver and was held off the board for the only time in the month as the Mavericks were eliminated, 2-0, in game three.
Guentzel also earned conference rookie of the month honors in November and was twice named the Bauer NCHC Rookie of the Week during the 2013-14 season.
The Mavericks, in conjunction with the NCHC, will release their 2014-15 schedule on Thursday. Season tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale on Monday, June 2. Season ticket holders should receive their renewals in the mail this week.
