Mavs Set to Honor Seniors Elsasser, Lutmer

The Omaha softball team will pay tribute to its two seniors - Dana Elsasser and Amber Lutmer - this weekend as the Mavericks celebrate their Senior Day. UNO will host IUPUI in a Friday doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. at Westside Field at Westbrook. The series concludes on Saturday at Noon with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to first pitch. Although small in numbers, UNO's senior class has left its mark in program history, literally. Lutmer is the school-record holder with 50 career home runs and seventh among active Division I players in that category. Her 16 homers this season lead the Summit League and rank tied for sixth nationally and are the second-most in single-season Maverick history. Lutmer is second in UNO history in career RBI with 178 and needs 15 to break the record. She also holds the school record with 113 career walks. Earlier this season, Lutmer was named College Sports Madness National Player of the Week and Summit League Player of the Week.
Elsasser, the Maverick ace the past three seasons and a four-year letterwinner, owns a Summit League-best 22 wins this season and ranks tied for ninth nationally. Her 66 career wins rank 26th among active Division I pitchers, and her career 1.43 earned-run average ranks fourth among active DI players. Elsasser has thrown 34 shutouts in her career, sixth-most among current DI pitchers. An All-Summit League Second Team pick last season, Elsasser has twice been named Summit League Pitcher of the Week this season and has 10 career weekly awards to her name.
The Mavericks
• In addition to Lutmer, Allie Mathewson hits .359 to go with eight homers, 39 runs and 24 RBI. She has 12 doubles and two triples for a team-high 22 extra-base hits. Sydney Hames is hitting .317 with one homer, nine doubles and 26 RBI. Campbell Ditto hits .302 with 10 homers, 32 RBI and 36 runs.
• Dana Elsasser is 22-7 this season with a 2.01 ERA. Elsasser has nine shutouts and an opponent batting average of .201. Cheyenne Baxter is 4-0 with a 3.56 ERA and .277 opponent batting average. She has allowed just four earned runs in her last 23.1 innings pitched dating back to April 11.
• After earning Summit League Player of the Week last week by hitting .529 with 13 RBI, Lizzie Noble picked up where she left off on Tuesday against North Dakota, hitting a grand slam, the first of her career and her sixth homer of the season. Noble is hitting .281 for the season with six homers, 34 RBI and 15 runs.
• The top three home run hitters in the Summit League are all Mavericks. In addition to Lutmer's 16 homers, Campbell Ditto has 10 and Allie Mathewson has eight. The Mavs lead the league with 46 home runs this season, fourth-most in school history. The most home runs in a season was 65 by the 2010 team. The 2003 team hit 54, and the 2002 team ranks third with 47.
Scouting IUPUI
IUPUI (19-17, 6-5 Summit League) has won three straight after taking two from South Dakota and besting Illinois-Chicago. Taylor Chitwood has a .391 batting average, three home runs and 12 RBI. Roni Patterson hits .374 with a team-best seven home runs and 27 RBI. The Jaguars have six everyday players hitting at least .325, and as a team they hit .310. Cassie Vodde is 10-6 with a 3.43 ERA. Jocelyn Oppenhuis is 5-7 with a 4.49 ERA.
