UNO-NDSU Series Pushed to Saturday-Sunday

This weekend's UNO-NDSU series has been pushed back one day to Saturday-Sunday because of an inclement weather forecast for Friday. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday and a single game at Noon on Sunday. The series was originally scheduled to be played at NDSU but was moved to Omaha because of frozen field conditions at Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo. Therefore, the Bison will be the designated home team for the series. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. UNO students get in free with their MavCard.
The Mavericks
• Amber Lutmer is tied for fourth in the nation with 13 home runs, and she leads the Mavericks with a .384 batting average and 37 RBI. Lutmer is the school-record holder for career homers (47) and is 23 RBI away from tying the career school mark of 167. Lutmer's 47 career homers rank sixth among active Division I players.
• The top three home run hitters in the Summit League are all Mavericks. In addition to Lutmer's league-best 13 homers, Campbell Ditto has eight and Allie Mathewson has seven. The Mavs lead the league with 36 home runs this season, and their 1.2 home runs per game rank tied for 13th nationally.
• Mathewson hits .358 to go with her seven homers, 28 runs and 20 RBI. She has eight doubles and two triples for a team-high 17 extra-base hits. Mathewson's career .725 slugging percentage ranks 21st among active DI players. Ditto hits .326 with eight homers, 27 runs and 22 RBI.
• Dana Elsasser is 16-5 this season with a 1.97 ERA. Her 16 victories rank tied for 13th nationally and lead the Summit League. Elsasser has six shutouts and has completed all 19 of her starts with an opponent batting average of .179. Elsasser's career 1.37 ERA ranks fifth among active DI players and her 60 wins rank 28th. Elsasser's 30 career shutouts are the eighth-most among active DI players.
• Sydney Hames is enjoying a strong sophomore season. Hames is hitting .347 with 22 RBI. She has significantly raised her average from .256 as a freshman last year.
Scouting North Dakota State
The Bison (19-12, 2-0 Summit League) are in first place in the league standings after winning two games at IUPUI last weekend. The third game was canceled due to heavy rain. The preseason favorite to win the league, NDSU is led by Cheyenne Garcia, who bats .371 with five home runs, 33 RBI and 26 runs scored. Alex Sobrero hits .364 with three homers and 21 RBI, while Logan Moreland hits .361 with two homers and 16 RBI. Krista Menke is 14-4 with a 2.14 ERA and four shutouts. Tabby Bayers is 3-6 with a 5.04 ERA.
Series History
UNO owns the 34-13 all-time series lead. The three-game series set for Omaha was canceled last season. The teams have not played since 2004.
Up Next
The Mavericks will travel for the first time since March 15, but they won't have to go far when they visit No. 20 Nebraska at 5 p.m. on April 8 at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln. UNO resumes Summit League play on April 11-12 at Fort Wayne.

OMAHA, Neb. - Hailey Decker had six RBI and Tatum Edwards threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts, as No. 18 Nebraska shut out the Omaha softball team, 10-0 (5 inn.) on March 26 at Westside Field at Westbrook. Nebraska improved to 21-10 overall, while the Mavericks dropped to 19-11. Despite the strong wind blowing straight out to center, the Mavs' Dana Elsasser and Huskers' Tatum Edwards engaged in a pitcher's duel early on, allowing no hits through the first two innings. Elsasser got help from second baseman Tara Trede when she made a highlight-reel dive and flip with her glove to Tonya Peterson for an out at second in the top of the third. But the first hit of the game for either team was a long one, as Tatum Edwards blasted a ball to right center with Decker on base for a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Trede singled off the pitcher's glove to lead off the bottom of the third for the Mavs, but three straight strikeouts by Tatum Edwards erased the potential threat. That would turn out to be the Mavs' only hit of the game, and Edwards struck out seven of the final 10 Maverick hitters. With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fourth, Decker blooped a single down the right field line to score two more runs and make it 4-0. Tatum Edwards then added another RBI hit with a single to left field for a 5-0 lead. Sydney Hames started the fourth on first base after an error on the third baseman, but Edwards retired three straight Maverick batters once again to limit any UNO chance of a comeback. Back-to-back doubles by MJ Knighten and Kiki Stokes gave NU a 6-0 lead to begin the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Decker sent a pitch off the scoreboard in left center to make it 10-0, giving her six RBI on the day on 2-for-4 at the plate. Tatum Edwards was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Taylor Edwards, NU's top hitter entering the game, drew four walks in four at bats and scored twice. Elsasser (16-5) allowed 10 earned runs on six hits with eight walks and four strikeouts. Tatum Edwards improved to 11-6 with the one-hitter, tossing 10 Ks with just one walk.
