Spenner Nabs Three Wins at USD Snowbird

Yankton, S.D. – Senior Sami Spenner won three events to lead the Omaha track and field team at the USD Snowbird invite at Williams Field on Saturday.
The meet was condensed from two days to one and was renamed after the Yankton area received substantial snow on Thursday. It was originally know as the Dakota Duals.
Nearly all of the sprint times and jump distances were wind aided so no marks count towards school records or personal bests.
Spenner won all three events she competed in: the 100 meter dash (11.82), 200 meters (23.86) and long jump (20-04 ¼).
The Mavericks took six of the top eight spots in the long jump as Spenner (1) (20-04 1/4), Kathie Lee-Laidley (2) (19-03 1/2), Denneil Shaw (3) (18-001/2), Liske (6) (16-09 3/4) Macy Woitzel (7) (16-05) and Amanda Alexander (8) (16-02 1/4) all scored points for Omaha in the event.
Nicole Liske also had a top-eight finish in the 100 meter dash, finishing in sixth with a time of 12.73. Terri Armstrong was able to finish in the top eight in both events that she competed in as the junior from Bellevue finished seventh in the 200 meter dash (26.08) and eighth in the 400 meter dash (1:00.70).
Other notable performances for Omaha included: Ashley Kildow finishing fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:49.95 and Katarina Zarudnaya taking seventh with a time of 4:51.78; Kristin Rogers (18:55.80) and Lindsey Bruns (19:05.25) finishing third and fourth respectively in the 5,000 meter run; Laidley earning runner up in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.90 and Celeste Robinson finishing fifth with a time of 15.29.
The Mavericks will return to action in two events next week starting with the Emporia State Multi-Event meet on April 10-11. Omaha also will compete in the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan. on April 11-12.
