May 1, 2014 | Softball
OMAHA, Neb. - Junior center fielder Allie Mathewson was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team, the College of Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
The team was selected by a vote of sports information directors whose institutions are located within CoSIDA District 7, which includes the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
Mathewson moves on to the Academic All-America ballot and will be considered for national honors later this month. She is the first Academic All-District selection for UNO softball since 2004, becoming the first in the Division I era.
Mathewson carries a 3.98 GPA majoring in pre-secondary education. On the field, Mathewson hits .364 to lead the Mavericks this season. She has a team-high 25 extra-base hits, including 10 homers, two triples and 13 doubles. Mathewson has scored a team-best 41 runs and has 29 RBI from her leadoff spot.
An All-NFCA Midwest Region First Team selection last year, Mathewson is the only member of a Division I school in Nebraska to appear on an academic all-district team this season.
