Mavs Announce 2014-15 Men's Basketball Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball program has released its complete 2014-15 season schedule, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Monday. The Mavericks' final year of reclassification to NCAA Division I includes 29 games, including 13 home contests in UNO's last season at Ralston Arena.
UNO will play in 11 states against schools from seven other conferences. Four opponents will come from the WAC, two apiece from the Mountain West and Big Sky and one each from the Southland, BIG EAST, Big Ten and Big 12. Three opponents -- Kansas State, Nebraska and defending Summit League champion North Dakota State -- played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
"We've put together a very competitive 2014-15 schedule, including many home games that our fans will enjoy," Hansen said. "Among those are a big return game with Nevada, which recently reached the Sweet 16, and they'll come to Omaha in late November. Our road games at Nebraska and Marquette will also catch people's attention, as well as a possible Top 10 opponent with our trip to Kansas State, all of which bolster our non-conference schedule."
Omaha makes its season debut on Nov. 16, hosting Central Arkansas at Ralston Arena. The Mavericks then begin a three-game road swing at Seattle (Nov. 19), Marquette (Nov. 22) and Nebraska (Nov. 25), the last of which will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
On Nov. 29, the Mavs return to Ralston to welcome Nevada, a familiar foe after UNO defeated the Wolf Pack last season, 82-80, in a dramatic road matchup.
Omaha then hits the road for a stop at Kansas State (Dec. 2) and another at Air Force (Dec. 8) before playing Iowa Wesleyan at home on Dec. 10. A trip to UMKC is planned for Dec. 13, followed by home games with Northern Colorado (Dec. 17) and UT Pan American (Dec. 21).
After a short winter break, the Mavericks are back in action with a jaunt to Chicago State (Dec. 29) before the New Year hits, then kick off league play at South Dakota (Jan. 2) and Western Illinois (Jan. 4). UNO hosts its first conference home game on Jan. 8 with North Dakota State, followed by South Dakota State on Jan. 10.
On Jan. 14, Omaha visits Oral Roberts, which returns to the Summit League after a one-year stint in the Southland Conference. The Mavs then bring in IUPUI (Jan. 18) and Denver (Jan. 24), followed by a Jan. 28 trip to South Dakota State. A contest with Fort Wayne is scheduled for Jan. 31, after which UNO travels to North Dakota State (Feb. 5) and Denver (Feb. 7).
The Mavericks enjoy their final homestand with three contests, hosting South Dakota (Feb. 12), Western Illinois (Feb. 14) and Oral Roberts (Feb. 19). They then hit the road a final time for three games to close the season, going to Fort Wayne (Feb. 26), IUPUI (Feb. 28) and North Dakota (March 3), with the final game a non-conference tilt.
"The Summit League will once again be very competitive," Hansen said. "We're looking forward to the challenge, especially with the addition to our conference of Oral Roberts, which has traditionally been a strong program."
Hansen enters his 10th season at the helm of the Omaha program in 2014-15, boasting a career record of 149-121. UNO returns four starters from the 2013-14 squad, led by senior guard CJ Carter, who was an honorable mention All-Summit pick a year ago.
"We'll have a lot of new faces on our roster this year as we build depth for the future of our program," Hansen said. "As a staff, we're confident that we'll be up for the challenges this schedule provides to put us in a position for success. It's just three months away, and we can't wait to embark on our final season of Division I reclassification."
