The Omaha volleyball team returns to Sapp Fieldhouse this weekend for its first home match since Aug. 30. The Mavericks host IUPUI for a Summit League opener on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., then travel to Western Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com, and Friday's home webcast will include commentary from Jon Green.
Scouting the IUPUI Jaguars
IUPUI enters the weekend with a record of 6-9 (0-0 Summit League) after going 1-2 at last weekend's Miami (Ohio) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. The Jaguars fell 3-1 to host Miami and 3-0 to Ohio State before a 3-1 win over UAB.
IUPUI won the 2013 Summit League regular-season and tournament championships, and it was picked third in the conference's preseason coaches' poll. The Jags are led by returning All-Summit picks Beth Howard, the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, and Kaitlyn Hickey. Head coach Steve Payne, the all-time league leader in wins, holds a career record of 216-291 over 17 seasons.
This weekend marks the fifth meeting all-time between Omaha and IUPUI, and the Jaguars lead the series, 4-0. The two teams last met on Nov. 1, 2013, with IUPUI taking a 3-0 win at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Scouting the Western Illinois Leathernecks
Western Illinois enters the weekend with a record of 2-11 (0-0 Summit League) after last weekend's Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. The Leathernecks dropped three straight, falling 3-2 to Butler, 3-0 to host Indiana and 3-1 to Buffalo.
WIU was picked seventh in the Summit League's preseason coaches' poll after finishing 12-18 overall and 6-9 in conference play last season. As a team, the Leathernecks are second in the league with 1.35 service aces per set, and Ann Miller ranks fourth among league players with 3.55 kills per set.
Western Illinois leads the all-time series with Omaha, 3-1. The two teams last squared off on Oct. 26, 2013, with the Leathernecks taking a 3-0 win in Macomb, Ill.

•Omaha's 19 team blocks against UT-Pan American last Saturday marked a season high for UNO and represented its highest team block total since Sept. 9, 2009, when the Mavericks had 20 against Nebraska-Kearney.
•Junior defensive specialist Kimberly Bailey was named to the all-tournament team at the Emerald Beach Islanders Classic last weekend after averaging a team-best 4.43 digs per set over four matches.
•Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak averaged a team-leading 2.50 kills per set along with 2.79 digs per set for the tournament. She achieved her team-leading fifth double-double of the season against UTPA, finishing with 14 kills and 16 digs.

Redshirt freshman Amanda Conlin is second in the conference with 1.43 blocks per set, while junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is fourth (1.22) and junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (1.10).
As a team, the Mavericks are second in the league with 2.78 blocks per set and 139 total blocks, and they are first with 252 block assists.
