Mavericks Earn Two Firsts at Holiday Inn Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. – A pair of first-place finishes highlighted the Omaha track & field team's first day of competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational at Lincoln on Friday.
Ashley Kildow, running the 3,000 meters for the first time, won with a time of 9:55.57, the second-best time at that distance in school history. Teammate Catherine Davison finished seventh in a time of 10:36.86.
In other running events, Karo Garcia finished seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:59.10.
In the qualifying heats of the 60 meter hurdles, Maddie Buller was eighth with a time of 9.36.
Taryn Derickson picked up first in the high jump in a tie-breaker over teammate Emily Everitt with a jump of 5-04 ½. Everitt was second in the field of 20.
The meet resumes on Saturday at the Devaney Sports Center with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at 2 p.m.
