Montgomery Leaves Mavericks For Junior Hockey

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha hockey head coach Dean Blais announced today that freshman forward Jake Montgomery is leaving the team to play for Sioux City, his former team in the United States Hockey League.
“We certainly wish Jake the best,” said Blais. “He is a good student and a good person, but he wasn't getting the ice time he expected here. He'll get that opportunity in Sioux City and a chance to continue his hockey career.”
The native of Oakdale, Minn. appeared in six games for the Mavericks, the most recent on Dec. 30 against New Hampshire. He had no points, two penalty minutes and was -1 in his time with Omaha.
Montgomery played in 114 career games for Sioux City before joining the Mavericks, putting up 35 goals and 35 assists for 70 points along with 152 penalty minutes.
The Mavericks are off this week and will return to action when they host North Dakota on Jan. 30-31.
