Scarpello Announces 2015 Spring Softball Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head softball coach Jeanne Scarpello released the 2015 schedule, featuring 16 home dates and five teams that advanced to the NCAA postseason.
Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Summit League champion North Dakota State, who all made NCAA Regional appearances, are on the Mavericks' schedule. The Bulldogs, Golden Gophers and Huskers all advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals last season.
The Mavericks open the season with six consecutive tournaments beginning with the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic in Hammond, Louisiana on Feb. 6. UNO will begin tournament play on Feb. 6 against University of Tennessee at Martin and Nicholls State. The next day the Mavs will play Southeastern Louisiana and Texas Arlington. Omaha wraps up the weekend against SWAC member Alcorn State on Feb. 8.
The following weekend has Omaha taking part in the North Carolina Central tournament in Durham, North Carolina. The Mavs open against Virginia on Friday, Feb. 13. UNO will play Canisius and La Salle the following day, before wrapping up against tournament host North Carolina Central and Canisius on Sunday.
Next up for the Mavs is the Red and Blue Classic hosted by Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. Omaha will play Middle Tennessee and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale on the first day of the tournament, Feb. 20. On the second day, the Mavs play tournament host Ole Miss and University of Tennessee at Martin, before having a rematch against SIU-Carbondale on Sunday, Feb. 22.
The competition does not get any easier for the Mavs when they travel to the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic Feb. 27 – Mar. 1 in Orlando, Fla. Omaha opens the tournament with games against Indiana and Georgetown on Feb. 27. The next day, Penn State and NCAA Super Regional participant, Minnesota, await UNO. Omaha will close out the weekend against another 2014 Super Regional participant, Georgia.
The Colorado State Classic is up next for the Mavericks on Mar. 6-8 in Fort Collins, Colo. Omaha will play a pair of games against Colorado State and Valparaiso and a single game against Drake.
UNO wraps up the tournament portion of their 2015 spring schedule in Lawrence, Kan. at the Jayhawk Invitational. Omaha opens tournament play against Big Sky regular season champ Idaho State on Mar. 13. The Mavs play Saint Louis and Kansas City on Mar. 14, before finishing up against Kansas on Mar. 15.
Omaha hosts Kansas City, North Dakota, and Northern Colorado for non-conference double headers. The Mavs will host Big 10 regular season champs Nebraska in a single game on April 15.
The Mavericks will travel to Missouri Valley regular season champs Wichita State for a double header on Mar. 31. Omaha will play single games against Iowa State on Apr. 22 and Northern Iowa on Apr. 28.
UNO will open the Summit League slate against Fort Wayne March 21-22. Summit League champs North Dakota State and Western Illinois each will come to Omaha for a weekend series. The Mavs road series include IUPUI, South Dakota, and South Dakota State.
Omaha returns seven position players from last year's team that went 33-16 overall and 12-6 in Summit League play. Coach Scarpello is in her 16th season leading the Maverick softball program.
