Randolph, Weninger Honored By NCHC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced today that Omaha hockey forward Jake Randolph and goaltender Evan Weninger had earned two of the conference's weekly awards.
Randolph was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week, the first weekly honor for the sophomore from Duluth, Minn. Randolph scored three of Omaha's five goals in a sweep at No. 6 Minnesota State last week. Randolph opened the scoring in Friday's 3-2 win, tallying just 4:34 into the game. He finished +1 for the game and had one blocked shot. On Saturday, he again scored the first goal of the game and in the third, added an insurance goal, both tallies coming on breakaways, in a 2-0 victory. He finished +2 for the game and had another shot block.
With three goals, Randolph is well on his way to equaling his freshman goal total of five. He leads all NCHC players in goals after the first weekend and is tied for second in conference points.
Weninger was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week following his first collegiate start. Weninger became the first Omaha freshman goalie to earn a shutout in his collegiate debut, blanking Minnesota State, 2-0, on Saturday. Weninger was busy, stopping 40 shots, one save from the highest save total in a shutout in school history. Included in his save total were 10 saves during five Minnesota State power plays.
The Mavericks return to action at Vermont on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17.
