Mavericks Reach Top of College Hockey Poll

OMAHA, Neb. – For the first time in school history, the Omaha hockey team ranks atop one of two weekly college hockey polls.
The Mavericks are the No. 1 team in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, a ranking of the NCAA's top 15 teams. They earned 474 points in the voting, edging out No. 2 North Dakota by 10 points. UNO also earned 15 first-place votes.
The Mavericks also are second in the USCHO.com poll, their highest ranking in that top-20 poll. They trail North Dakota by four points in the voting and also earned 15 first-place votes.
Again this week, the Mavericks are one of six NCHC teams in both polls, the most of any conference. In addition to UNO and UND, Minnesota Duluth is fifth in both polls and Denver is sixth in both. St. Cloud State is ninth in the USCHO.com poll and 10th in the USA Today poll. Miami is 14th and 15th in those polls respectively.
Omaha is coming off a sweep at then No. 20 Vermont last weekend, winning 4-3 and 3-1. Their 4-0-0 start is their best since 2010-11.
The Mavericks play their first two games in Baxter Arena this weekend when they host Air Force on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24.
