Ortega Named NCHC Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior forward Austin Ortega was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. It's the second time this season a Maverick has earned the honor.
Ortega scored four of Omaha's seven goals last weekend in a sweep at then No. 20 Vermont last weekend. On Friday, he scored two goals, including the game winner, in a 4-3 win. He was +3 for the game. The following night, Ortega had two more goals, including another game winner, in a 2-1 win. He finished +2 in that game.
The native of Escondido, Calif. leads the NCHC with five goals and is tied for the NCHC lead with six points. He now has 15 career game-winning goals, putting him first all-time at UNO and eight away from tying the NCAA record.
Sophomore forward Jake Randolph was named the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week last week.
Ortega and the Mavericks open Baxter Arena this weekend when they host Air Force on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24.
