Mavericks Third at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. – Junior Karo Garcia led the Omaha cross country team for the fourth race of the season, helping the Mavericks to a third-place finish at the Mount Marty Invitational on Saturday.
UNO finished with a score of 91 in the 11-team race. Dordt College won with 48 points, 32 points ahead of Morningside.
Garcia finished third overall with a time of 18:37.16 over the 5K course, 1:31 better than her time on the same course last year and a personal best at that distance.
Perla Gutierrez was second for the Mavs and 19th overall in a time of 19:19.84, also a personal best at 5K and an 11-second improvement from last year.
Rosie Gensichen was third on the team and 24th overall at 19:32.26, just ahead of teammates Lauren Houston and Alyssa Averhoff. Houston was 26th at 19:35.50 while Averhoff was 27th at 19:38.65, both personal bests.
The Mavericks will run next at the Summit League Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 in Brookings, S.D.
