Mavericks Run Fifth at South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha cross country team took fifth place at the South Dakota State Classic on Saturday.
The Mavericks earned 132 points over the 5K course at Edgebrook Golf Course. South Dakota won with 35 points followed by host South Dakota State with 40. North Dakota State was third with 56.
Rosie Gensichen led the Mavericks for the first time this season, running a time of 19:13.46 to put her 23rd overall. Perla Gutierrez was second for the Mavs and 32nd overall in a time of 19:38.02, 21 seconds better than her time in the same race last season.
Avery Schmidt was right behind in 33rd place with a time of 19:38.49, more than a minute better than her time from last season. Alyssa Averhoff followed Schmidt in 34th with a time of 19:45.96, a 10-second improvement from last year's race.
Freshman Lauren Houston completed the scoring for the Mavericks, running a time of 20:17.84 to finish in 42nd place.
The Mavericks have a week off before running in the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 16.
