Weninger Named NCHC Rookie of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman goaltender Evan Weninger was named the NCHC's Rookie of the Month for November on Tuesday.
Weninger was a perfect 5-0-0 in the month, helping Omaha to a 5-0-1 record. Weninger began the month by making a career-best 45 saves in a 4-2 win over Minnesota Duluth. The following night, he had another 35 saves in another 4-2 win over UMD. He started UNO's second game at Miami, making 30 saves in a 3-2 overtime win on Nov. 21.
The following week, the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan backstopped a sweep of visiting Ohio State on Nov. 27-28. He stopped 34 shots in a 3-1 win in the opener and then had 42 more saves in a 6-4 win to close out the series.
Weninger led all NCAA freshman goaltenders in November with a .944 save percentage and his 2.18 GAA ranks third best. In the NCHC, he was second among all goaltenders in save percentage and fourth in GAA during the month.
Through two months of play, Weninger ranks third among all NCAA goaltenders with a .948 save percentage (best among freshman netminders) and is 11th with a 1.91 goals-against average.
The Mavericks are on the road this weekend, facing No. 7 St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5.
