Day One Complete for Mavericks at SDSU

The Omaha track and field team competed in day one of the SDSU Indoor Invitational on Friday.
The day was highlighted by a second-place finish for freshman Stephanie Ahrens in the high jump. Ahrens posted a jump of 5-06 ½, just ahead of teammates Emily Everitt who placed third (5-04 ½) and Taryn Derickson who finished fifth (5-02 ½).
In the long jump, Payton Horacek placed seventh with a jump of 17-07, and Noni Henderson placed eighth, posting a jump of 17-04 ¾.
Amanda Conlin earned sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 41-01 1/2.
In the running events, Terri Armstrong recorded a season-best time of 25.99 in the 200 meters, good for 24th place. Hannah Fowler posted a career-best time of 26.79 earning her 63rd place out of 139 runners.
Karo Garcia and Alyssa Averhoff posted career-best times in the 5,000 meter run. Garcia finished in 18:31.94 while Averhoff finished in 19:06.91.
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow for day two of the meet beginning at 9:30 a.m.
