Maverick Men Picked Sixth In Preseason Golf Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team has been picked to finish sixth in the annual Summit League preseason coaches' poll.
The Mavericks, who finished in a tie with Western Illinois for seventh in the 2014 Summit League Championship, received 29 points in the voting to put them five points behind fifth-place North Dakota State and seven ahead of seventh-place Western Illinois.
Karl Krieser, who was the first Maverick to earn all-league status last year when he was named to the second team, led the Mavericks during the fall season with a stroke average of 74.3.
Denver was picked to win the Summit League this season. The Pioneers received eight first-place votes and 64 points total. IUPUI received the other first-place vote and had 53 points followed by Oral Roberts with 52 points.
South Dakota State (4/39), North Dakota State (5/34), Omaha, Western Illinois (7/22), South Dakota State (8/19) and Fort Wayne (9/12) round out the voting.
The Summit League Championship will be held on May 1-3 at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif.
The Mavericks begin the spring half of their season at the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls State on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 23-24 in Patterson, La.
