Omaha Tabbed League Favorite in Preseason Poll

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team was picked as the Summit League's preseason favorite for the second straight year, the conference office announced today with the release of the 2015 Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll.
Omaha received three first-place votes and 23 total points. Oral Roberts came in second with the remaining three first-place votes and 21 points. In third place was South Dakota State with 17 points, followed by North Dakota State (15), Western Illinois (eight) and Fort Wayne (six).
The Mavericks enter the 2015 season seeking their third consecutive regular-season championship. Omaha returns 19 letterwinners and five All-Summit selections from a year ago, led by defending Summit League Pitcher of the Year Tyler Fox, a junior right-hander who posted a 9-1 record on the mound last season. The Mavericks also return junior outfielder Cole Gruber, senior outfielder Daniel Jewett, junior outfielder Alex Schultz and junior infielder Clayton Taylor. Head coach Bob Herold's five returning all-league picks are the most of any team in the conference.
UNO capped the 2014 season with a record of 31-20 (15-9 Summit League). The Mavericks won their second straight regular-season crown in just their second year as a member of the Summit League and their third year as a Division I program.
Omaha opens the 2015 season at the GCU Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., on Friday, Feb. 13.
