Competition Spans Time Zones For UNO Track

AZUSA, Calif. – Season and personal bests highlighted a full day of competition for the Omaha track & field team at two meets nearly 1,500 miles apart.
Several Mavericks competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific. Stephanie Ahrens finished in a four-way tie for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5-06. Taryn Derickson was 12th with a personal best leap of 5-04 ¼.
Denneil Shaw had a season best in the long jump with a mark of 18-00 ½.
On the track, Terri Armstrong ran a season-best in the 400 meters with a time of 59.02. Madeline Glesinger put up another season best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.99.
In the 1,500 meters, Katarina Zarudnaya posted a time of 4:32.82, just ahead of Ashley Kildow ran a new personal best with a time of 4:33.54. They finished 31st and 35th respectively in the massive field of 167 runners.
Closer to home, the Mavericks also competed in the Jim Dutcher Memorial at Doane. Lauren Doeschot had a big personal best in the javelin, putting up a mark of 124-00, eclipsing her previous PR by almost eight and a half feet. It is the third-best javelin mark in school history.
The team of Alyssa Thavenet, Kayla Sabotin, Rosie Gensichen and Catherine Davison won the 4 x 800 meter relay in a time of 9:19.13.
In the 5,000 meters, Perla Gutierrez took second in a time of 18:46.08, a new PR by almost 13 seconds. Alyssa Averhoff was sixth in a time of 19:14.42, a personal best by almost 45 seconds.
In the 10,000 meters, Avery Schmidt took third in a time of 41:37.67.
The Mavericks concluded competition at both events on Saturday.
