More PRs For Mavericks at Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Omaha track & field team put up more personal bests on the second day of competition at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on Friday.
In the 1,500 meters, Katarina Zarudnaya won with a time of 4:37.93. She was one of three Mavericks in the top eight in the event. Kayla Sabotin was fourth in a time of 4:50.44 and Rosie Gensichen was fifth at 4:51.13. The latter two times were personal bests.
The Mavericks had three personal bests in the 5,000 meters. Karo Garcia put up a time of 18:25.33, almost a minute faster than her previous best, to come in 13th place. Perla Gutierrez was right behind at 18:25.96. Gensichen finished 19th with a time of 18:37.10, almost 52 seconds better than her previous best.
Terri Armstrong came in seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 59.13.
The Mavericks ran a season-best in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The team of Hannah Fowler, Armstrong, Alexis Allgood and Zarudnaya finished third with a time of 4:02.33.
In the 4 x 100 meter relay, the team of Nicole Liske, Armstrong, Tschida Johnson and Payton Horacek took second with a time of 49.48.
In the field, Noni Henderson was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 34-05 ½, and Denneil Shaw was right behind in sixth with a leap of 33-09 ½. Henderson also took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 17-07 ½.
In the high jump, Taryn Derickson finished second with a jump of 5-04 ½ while Emily Everitt tied for fifth with a mark of 5-02 ½.
In the throwing events, Megan Adams put up a personal best in the discus with throw of 126-00. She also took third in the javelin with a toss of 103-11. The discus was part of the schedule on Thursday.
Amanda Conlin was second in the shot put with a mark of 40-03 ¼.
In action from earlier in the week, Ashley Kildow ran a time of 17:25.06, good for 19th, at the Drake Relays on Thursday in Des Moines.
The Mavericks return to the track on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D.
