Mavericks Finish Weekend in California, Crete
Apr 19, 2015 | Track & Field
NORWALK, Calif. – The Omaha track & field team finished a busy week with action in California and at Doane College on Saturday.
At the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State, Katarina Zarudnaya and Ashley Kildow both competed in the 800 meters for the first time this season. Zarudnaya put up a time of 2:12.08 while Kildow posted a personal best time of 2:14.66.
Terri Armstrong put up a time of 25.35 in the 200 meters, just missing a chance to tie her personal best by .03 seconds. Armstrong also had a time of 12.26 in the 100 meter dash which would have been a new PR except that the time was wind aided.
In the 5,000 meters, Kristin Rogers had a season best time of 18:25.85.
In the field, Stephanie Ahrens took second in the high jump with a leap of 5-07 while Taryn Derickson was 10th at 5-05.
At Doane, the Mavericks were competing in the second day of the Jim Dutcher Memorial.
In the field events, Emily Everitt reached a new personal best in the high jump with a mark of 5-06. She also had a leap of 17-01 ½ in the long jump, good for third place. It would have been a PR but there was no wind information.
Noni Henderson won the long jump with a leap of 18-01 ¾, another mark that would have been a PR but for the lack of wind information. Henderson was denied another PR for the same reason in the triple jump after she posted a distance of 36-07.
The Mavericks had a pair of personal bests in the 800 meters. Alyssa Thavenet took fifth in a time of 2:17.12 while Kayla Sabotin was right behind in sixth with a time of 2:19.82.
In the 1,500 meters, Catherine Davison took fifth with a time of 4:55.28 while Rosie Gensichen came in seventh with a personal best time of 4:56.32.
In the shorter distances, Payton Horacek finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.77 while Hannah Fowler finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 26.38. She also came in third in the 400 meters with a time of 59.49.
In the hurdles, Maddie Buller picked up a pair of fifth-place finishes. She put up a time of 16.30 in the 100 meter hurdles and came back with a clocking of 1:06.07 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The team of Buller, Fowler, Tschida Johnson and Alexis Allgood finished the meet by coming in fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:05.21.
The Mavericks return to action with another busy week. They'll take part in the Drake Relays on April 23-25 and also hit the track in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on April 24.
