Mavericks Stay In-State at Nebraska Invite

This Week
The Omaha track & field team will compete in the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, May 9 beginning at noon at Ed Weir Stadium in Lincoln.
The Coaches
Chris Richardson is in his ninth season with the Omaha track & field program, his second as its head coach after seven seasons as an assistant. Richardson helped guide the Mavericks through some of their most successful years including three conference championships and three top-five NCAA finishes. The highlight of that stretch included a fourth-place finish at the 2010 indoor championship prior to the Mavericks' reclassification to Division I. In 2011, he was named the USTFCCCA South Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Richardson is assisted by Marc Bierbaum and Ryan Finley. Bierbaum is in his fifth season coaching the distance events in addition to coaching the cross country team. Finley is in his second season, coaching both sprints and jumps. Cliff Cisar and former UNO standout and multiple record holder Sami Spenner are volunteer assistant coaches.
The Previous Meet
The Mavericks put up a number of personal bests at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 1-2.
Noni Henderson took fifth in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 37-02 ½. Emily Everitt had a personal best leap of 16-10 ¾ in the long jump, putting her in seventh place.
Taryn Derickson was fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-04 ¼ while Emily Everitt was sixth with a jump of 5-02 ¼.
In the hammer throw, Megan Adams also had a PR with a toss of 129-07. In the javelin, Amanda Alexander was fourth with a throw of 116-07. Also in the throwing events, Amanda Conlin took eighth in the shot put with a mark of 41-11 ½.
On the track, the Mavericks had two personal bests in the 200 meters. Terri Armstrong was second with a time of 25.09 while Hannah Fowler was sixth with a time of 25.76.
In the 400 meters, Fowler had another PR, finishing ninth with a time of 58.36.
In the 800 meters, Alyssa Thavenet took third with a time of 2:13.48, a personal best and the second-best time by a Maverick in the event this season. Kayla Sabotin also had a PR, coming in ninth with a time of 2:17.34.
In the 5,000 meters, Kristin Rogers was ninth with a personal best time of 18.22.48.
In the 4 x 100 relay, the team of Nicole Liske, Armstrong, Tschida Johnson and Fowler was fourth in a time of 48.85, a new team season best.
Ashley Kildow took second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.42, just missing a personal best by less than a second.
Terri Armstrong tied for sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.77 while Hannah Fowler took eighth in a personal best time of 12.85.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Madeline Glesinger has a PR time of 1:05.36, good for ninth place.
Ranking in the Summit League
The Mavericks rank among the top eight in the Summit League in several events. In the sprints, Terri Armstrong is seventh in the 100 meters (12.29).
In the longer distances, Katarina Zarudnaya is fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:30.31) and ranks fifth in the 800 meters (2:12.08). Ashley Kildow ranks fourth in the 5,000 meters (17:00.19, school record) and is just outside the top eight in the 1,500 (4:33.54/10th). In the 10,000 meters, Kristen Rogers is seventh (38:38.66), and Karo Garcia is just outside in 10th (39:12.11).
Stephanie Ahrens is seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (15.14) and in the field, she is tied for second in the high jump (5-09 3/4). Emily Everitt is sixth (5-06) and Taryn Derickson is tied for seventh (5-05). In the long jump, Noni Henderson is just outside the top eight (18-03 1/4/ninth).
Megan Adams is eighth in the discus throw (126-00). Amanda Alexander is fifth in the javelin (131-10) while Lauren Doeschot is eighth (124-00). Alexander also is seventh in the heptathlon (4,192).

The Mavericks conclude their season in the Summit League Championship in Macomb, Ill. on Wednesday through Friday, May 13-15.
