Freshman Class Named To NCHC Academic Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – All 10 members of the Omaha hockey team's freshman class have been added to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Academic All-Conference Team for the 2014-15 season.
The Mavericks and Western Michigan both had their entire freshman class earn a 3.0 GPA or better, and UNO led the way with 10 freshmen on the Academic All-Conference Team.
Those Mavericks who made the team include Brock Crossthwaite, Grant Gallo, Joel Messner, Luke Nogard, Avery Peterson, David Pope, Jake Randolph, Brian Rideout, Luc Snuggerud and Tyler Vesel.
With the addition of the freshmen, UNO led all NCHC schools with 23 of its 25 student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference Team.
To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and have completed a full academic year at their current institution. Freshmen were not eligible in March as they had not completed a full academic year, but with the 2014-15 academic calendar complete, the rising sophomores are now eligible to earn Academic All-Conference honors. Athletic success and playing time are not criteria for this award.
With freshmen added, a total of 128 student-athletes earned NCHC Academic All-Conference accolades in 2014-15. After Omaha, Western Michigan was next with 20 student-athletes on the team. Denver had 18 student-athletes earn All-Academic honors while St. Cloud State and Miami had 17 and 16, respectively.
