Mavs Unveil 2015 Volleyball Schedule, Ticket Plans

OMAHA, Neb. -- Season tickets for the 2015 Omaha volleyball season are on sale now, head coach Rose Shires announced Tuesday, along with the Mavericks' complete 2015 season schedule.
Season-ticket packages are available for $70 per person for general admission seating over 12 home matches. In addition, fans will receive three bonus matches with the trio of non-UNO contests scheduled during the six-match Omaha Classic.
The 2015 season will be Omaha's first with full eligibility for Summit League and NCAA postseason play. The Mavericks' upcoming regular-season slate comprises 29 matches, including 12 home contests. Ten contests will be played at Sapp Fieldhouse and two more at Baxter Arena, the new 7,500-seat, on-campus venue under construction at 67th and Center Streets.
"We're really excited to move our program to Baxter Arena near the end of the 2015 season," Shires said. "With two of our last three matches there, that'll be very special for our six seniors, as well as our entire program. This is something we have worked toward over the last five years, and our players are excited to play in a new home on campus. It marks a new brand of volleyball for UNO, and I know that has our fans excited too."
Omaha makes its season debut Aug. 28-29 at the UNLV Invitational, facing Seton Hall, host UNLV and Central Arkansas in Las Vegas, Nev. The Mavericks kick off their home slate the following weekend, Sept. 4-5, welcoming North Dakota, Drake and Central Florida for the annual Omaha Classic. They close their four-match homestand with a midweek match against UC Davis on Sept. 9.
UNO then hits the road for two straight weekends of non-conference tournament action. The Mavs square off with SIUE, Bradley and host UMKC at the Kangaroo Klassic, Sept. 11-12, in Kansas City, Mo., followed by the Chippewa Invite, Sept. 18-19, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., against Evansville, San Jose State and Central Michigan.
"Our schedule, in particular the non-conference portion, will really boost our RPI for the year," Shires said. "We'll start immediately with top opponents in Seton Hall and UNLV, then come home for three tough matchups at the Omaha Classic and another non-conference foe in UC Davis before we go back on the road again. We're looking forward to how the early part of the season prepares us to compete in the conference."
Omaha's fourth year of Summit League play opens Sept. 25 at South Dakota State, after which the Mavericks bring South Dakota to Sapp Fieldhouse on Sept. 26. Two more road weekends will challenge the Mavericks with trips to North Dakota State (Oct. 3), Oral Roberts (Oct. 9) and Denver (Oct. 11).
UNO then enjoys its four of its next five matches at home, beginning with back-to-back action against Fort Wayne (Oct. 16) and IUPUI (Oct. 17). Following a midweek jaunt to Western Illinois (Oct. 20), the Mavericks return home for North Dakota State (Oct. 23) and Denver (Oct. 24). On Oct. 30, Omaha calls on South Dakota.
The Mavericks have a memorable day in store for Nov. 1, playing their first match at Baxter Arena and honoring their six-member senior class with Senior Day festivities. The homestand continues with a Nov. 6 match against South Dakota State at Sapp Fieldhouse, followed by a home finale at Baxter Arena with Oral Roberts on Nov. 10.
UNO closes the regular season with a final roadtrip over the eastern-most side of the conference, traveling to Fort Wayne (Nov. 13) and IUPUI (Nov. 14). The Summit League Tournament, which builds its field from the top six teams in the conference standings, is then set for Nov. 20-22 in Denver, Colo.
"The Summit League will have several teams with RPIs in the top 125 this year," Shires said. "Facing programs like Denver, IUPUI and South Dakota each week will challenge us and give us an opportunity to compete for our first Summit League Tournament and NCAA Tournament berth."
Over the regular season, UNO will play in 10 states against schools from 10 other Division I conferences. The schedule has three opponents from the Missouri Valley, two from the Mountain West and one each from the American Athletic, BIG EAST, Big West, Big Sky, MAC, Mountain West, OVC and WAC. Three opponents -- Seton Hall, Central Florida and Denver -- played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Shires, the winningest coach in program history, enters her 26th season at the helm and boasts a career record of 456-330. UNO returns 11 letterwinners, including a core of seven starters from the 2014 squad: seniors Kimberly Bailey, Diane Banderas, Michaela Schimmer, Megan Schmale and Kelley Wollak and sophomores Sydney O'Shaughnessy and Mackenzie Horkey.
