Mavericks Open Regular Season at Iowa

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's soccer team opens the 2015 season at Iowa on Sunday, Aug. 23. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
Looking Back
• Omaha begins the regular season on the heels of a pair of exhibition matches in which it went 1-1. The Mavericks opened the preseason with a 3-2 loss at Wyoming on Aug. 13 and then won a 4-0 decision over UMKC on Sunday at Caniglia Field.
Maverick Quick Hits
• Veteran Vibe: Omaha returns one of the most experienced lineups in the country this fall. The Mavericks bring back 11 starters from a season ago. Included are Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Wampler and First Team All-Summit League performer Chelsi Rohloff.
• Goals, Goals, Goals: UNO returns 79.2 percent of its goal scoring from last season, led by senior Chelsi Rohloff who netted 10 goals in 2014. Senior defender Hannah Wampler added four goals.
• Lending a Helping Foot: The Mavericks return four players who tallied at least three assists last season. Rohloff led the team with four assists, while Kyla Booker, Lydia Holtmann, and Courtney Neville each had three assists.
• Preseason Predictions: Omaha was picked to finish fifth in the preseason Summit League Coaches Poll. Last season, the Mavericks defeated preseason favorite Denver and post season tournament champion South Dakota State.
• Klosterman's Way: Don Klosterman (193-52-10) enters his 17th season at the helm of the Omaha program in 2015. During his stint with the Mavericks, he has been named NSCAA Coach of the Year twice (2002, 2005) and won the NCAA Division II national title in 2005.
Series vs. Iowa
• This is the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
About the Hawkeyes
• The Hawkeyes return five starters from last year's 14-win team. The Iowa squad features 10 incoming freshmen and one transfer in junior Rachele Armand. Returning for the Hawkeyes are juniors Amanda Lulek, Bri Toelle, Natalie Krygier, and Corey Burns, and senior goalkeeper Hannah Clark.
• The Hawkeyes finished the 2014 season with a 14-7-1 overall and 7-5-1 Big Ten record. Iowa posted victories over No. 23 Rutgers and Northwestern to advance to the Big 10 conference tournament championship game for a second straight season.

• Omaha welcomes Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois next weekend. The Mavericks welcome Northern Iowa to Caniglia Field on Friday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the homestand on Sunday, Aug. 30 against Pacific at 11 a.m.
