Mavericks Open Season With Home Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's golf team opens the fall half of its 2015-16 season next week when it hosts its own UNO Invitational presented by Health Care Information Systems. The tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15 at ArborLinks in Nebraska City.
This year, the Mavericks will be looking to replace “the founders”, graduated seniors Karl Krieser, Alex Holtan and Taylor Sidzyik. All three played during the first four years of the Division I era.
The Mavericks return Phillip Baumberger who, in his freshmen season, led UNO in scoring at the Summit League Championship in May. He was third in scoring on the team in his rookie year with a scoring average of 77.6 and tied for third-best round on the team last year with a 70 in the second round of the Summit Championship.
Also back for UNO will be junior Mitch Ryan and sophomore Miles Russell. The Omaha natives both redshirted last season. Ryan was third on the team in scoring during his sophomore season in 2013-14, posting a scoring average of 77.6.
The Mavericks also added five newcomers to this year's roster. Ben Maskus comes to Omaha from Dodge City Community College where he helped his team to the NJCAA national tournament last season. Cameron MacGregor enters UNO as a sophomore after a season at Chabot College in California.
The other three newcomers include true freshmen Kobi Boe, Kevin Gordon and Sam Musch. Boe helped Edina High School to a runner-up finish in the Minnesota state championship as a senior. Gordon had an accomplished high school and junior golf career in his native Canada where he finished sixth at the Canadian Junior National Championship this summer. Musch tied for second overall and helped Stevens High School in Rapid City to a third-place finish in the South Dakota state championship as a senior.
Last season, the Mavericks tied with Weber State for first in the UNO Invitational before losing in a one-hole playoff.
Following their home tournament, the Mavericks will be back on the course at the South Dakota Coyote Classic in Sioux City, S.D. on Sept. 21-22.
