Omaha Tops Northern Colorado in OT, 1-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team played its second straight overtime match on Sunday, defeating Northern Colorado by a 1-0 final score. UNO's Chelsi Rohloff netted the winner in the 98th minute of the first overtime period.
The Mavericks improved to 3-4-2 on the season, while the Bears drop to 5-5-0 overall.
Northern Colorado threatened early, when a shot from Ambree Bellin forced Omaha's Katlyn Schochenmaier to make a save. Schochenmaier came up big in the 5th minute to stop an Adrienne Jordan shot to keep the game scoreless.
Emily Romero and Hannah Wampler each had good looks at goal midway through the opening half, but UNC goalkeeper Madeline Burdick stopped both shots.
Northern Colorado continued its attack in the second period, taking six shots in the second 45, but four second half saves by Schochenmaier kept the game scoreless.
Rohloff got behind the UNC defense in the 87th minute, but her shot was blocked by a recovering defender.
In overtime, UNC's Essence Ortiz-Laneir looked to have put her shot over Schochenmaier just 90 seconds into overtime, but the Omaha goalkeeper was able to make the save.
Midway through the overtime period, the momentum shifted Omaha's way. Rohloff got behind the Bear's defense and took a shot nearly snuck into the far left corner, but was cleared off the line by a defender. The clearance bounced back to Rohloff who took a touch and slotted her shot neatly into the lower corner of the near post for the game-ending goal.
Schochenmaier tallied 10 saves on the afternoon and picked up her second career shut-out.
Omaha wraps up a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 22 against Missouri State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field. Links to live stats and video will be available at OMavs.com.
