Omaha Takes Third at Augustana Twilight

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Omaha cross country team opened the season with a third-place finish at the Augustana Twilight on Friday night.
The Mavericks had 79 points in action over the three-mile course at Yankton Trails. Nebraska won the university division with 26 points followed by Creighton with 31.
Karo Garcia led the Mavericks with a top-10 finish. She came in ninth with a time of 17:42.00, 10 seconds faster than her previous best over the same distance.
Rosie Gensichen was second for the Mavs and 19th overall with a time of 18:20.60, almost 11 seconds ahead of teammate Alyssa Averhoff who was 25th overall in a time of 18:31.40.
Perla Gutierrez was fourth for UNO and came in 28th with a time of 18:47.60, and Avery Schmidt finished the scoring for the Mavericks with a time of 19:16.10, putting her 31st.
The Mavericks are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Woody Green Nebraska Invitational.
